Shri Ram Singh Dhoni Rajkiya Mahavidyalay was established on 31st March 1996.The college is named after Ram Singh Dhoni, a local freedom fighter who blazed a trail for his fellow citizens by his exemplary sacrifice during the tumultuous freedom struggle in India. The college is located in the geographically remote hamlet of Jainti in the Almora district of Uttarakhand. It is spread over an area of 2.4 acres. The college being situated atop a hill commands a panoramic view of the rolling hills dotted by villages, lush green vegetation and sprawling valleys. Since the college is far removed from the hustle and bustle of Jainti town , it makes for an appropriate setting as an ideal learning place for the students who predominantly hail from rural background.
The college was affiliated to Kumaun University Nainital since its inception and with the establishment of Sobhan Singh Jeena University Almora , the college got affiliated to it.At present 326 students are enrolled in the college with 20 faculty members. The college offers graduation courses in Arts, Science and Commerce stream and post-graduation courses in Hindi, Sanskrit and Political Science. The college is also an approved study centre of Uttarakhand Open University since 2017.
Especial emphasis is laid on enhancing and upgrading the quality of education. Major attempts are being made to incorporate e – governance practices and integrated mode of learning in the classrooms.
Through NSS the college conducts various outreach programmes in the local community to enlighten and sensitize students about various social issues such as gender discrimination, drug abuse, swachhata abhiyan, among others.
The college is recognized by University Grants Commission under section 2 [F] and 12 [b].
