Shree Ram Singh Dhoni Rajkiya Mahavidyalaya Jainti, Almora Botany Department Overexploitation, epidemics, habitat destruction, modification and other anthropogenic natural stresses have forced many valuable plant species to become extinct. Simultaneously, these factors are continuously threatening the very survival of great number of plant species. Conservation of endangered plant species and genetic resources is being done by several ex-situ and in-situ methods all over the world. Public awareness may play an important role in conserving the flora. To meet an ever increasing demand for plant products an application of the knowledge of botany has been considered to be of great importance for better utilization of it. Man has also tried to tap plants as source for his comforts and varied use by exploiting his scientific knowledge and has been successful in this direction to a great extent. The department of Botany was established in 2015.and at present it offers B.Sc.( Three years degree course) and a Ph.D. programme. The syllabus of B.Sc. is according to New Education Policy. NEP 2020 was implemented from session 2022-2023.B.Sc. I Semester along with B.Sc. II Year and B.Sc. III Year (both in annual mode) are running simultaneously. Internal evaluation is based on assignments, tests, quizzes; oral presentation etc. The department has also formed departmental council under which several extracurricular activities are conducted from time to time where students actively participate. Apart from classroom teaching there are frequent field visits to enhance their knowledge about the surrounding environment. Guidance for competitive exams is also given along with career counseling and for overall personality development tips are given to the needful students. In the syllabus of botany from B.Sc. I to VI semester Lower plants, Taxonomy, Anatomy, Ecology, Cytology, Genetics, Plant Physiology, Biochemistry, Economic Botany, Plant Morphology, Embryology, Molecular Biology, Plant Breeding, Bio-Statistics and Biotechnology are included. Ph. D. students are also registered under the supervision of Dr. Nutan Srivastava who has joined this institution in August 2022.and at present working as the In-charge of this department. She is M.Sc., Ph. D.,LL.B., NET and GATE. She has more than 27 years of teaching experience. She has worked as J.R.F. and S.R.F. for more than 3 years in the DBT project at NBRI, Lucknow. After that she worked as lecturer in Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan, the prestigious Deemed University. She has published and presented more than 15 research papers at International and National Seminars, Symposium and Conferences.
