The Department of English is one of the founding departments of the College, beginning in 1996.It equips students with both a rigorous knowledge of the subject as well as critical and analytical ability. The English curriculum is impactful as it takes students through the best in world literature. It provides an engagement with issues as varied as gender stereotypes, identity formation and race relations. The department offers courses such as Modern English Drama, prose, poetry, fiction and Indian Literature.The papers help the students understand different genres and also equip them with skills required for academic writing and understanding nuances of literature. Recently the department has adopted syllabus recommended by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as per the National Education Policy 2020. An attempt is made to make the classes lively, interactive spaces where students are encouraged to share their own perceptions and ask searching questions. Continuous and comprehensive evaluation of students is done through presentations, internal assessments and quiz.
