The Department of Commerce at Shri Ram Singh Dhoni Government Degree College, Jainti was established on 31st March 1996. The college is affiliated with Soban Singh Jeena University, Almora. Since its inception, the department has been committed to imparting quality education to students pursuing the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree. In addition to undergraduate education, the department is currently running a Ph.D. programme, providing advanced research opportunities.

These academic programmes not only meet the evolving demands of business and industry but also serve as a platform for local aspirants to build careers as business professionals and executives. The faculty members are well-qualified and actively engaged in both teaching and research activities.

To promote holistic development, the department has established a Commerce Association, which regularly organizes a wide range of extracurricular activities such as seminars, sports events, debates, quizzes, Swachhata Abhiyan, and various competitive programmes. These initiatives complement classroom teaching and strive to enhance students' learning experiences while building their exposure to the corporate world. In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the department has recently adopted the updated UGC-recommended syllabus for its three-year undergraduate programme.

At present, the Department of Commerce functions under the academic leadership of Mr. Prabhdeep Singh, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department. With his expertise in teaching, research, and administration, he is steering the department towards academic excellence. The faculty team also includes Mrs. Neha (Assistant Professor), who joined in 2024, bringing fresh perspectives and contributing to both academic and extracurricular initiatives. Together, they are dedicated to advancing the mission and vision of the department and contributing to the academic and professional growth of their students.
